KOLER LAW OFFICE NEWS

During this trying time of quarantines, closings, and COVID-19, it is important not to forget about the elderly and aging population. They are at the greatest risk and therefore need to be the most strictly isolated. Many nursing homes are limiting visitors, leaving many elderly cut off and alone.

How can you help?
Consider writing to a local nursing home or elderly care facility. A handwritten note can add a little cheer and sense of community for those missing social visits. This can also be a great activity for kids home from school.

If you have a family or loved one who needs additional care during this time, and are worried about the process or cost of a long-term facility—we can provide up to date information on what to expect and how/where to begin.

At the Koler Law Office, we walk you through the maze of Medicaid eligibility, the look-back period, and tax implications. We are here to help you navigate through this complex area. Contact us to schedule a complimentary Welcome Meetingwhich can take place over the phone!

Social Distancing with Compassion

While it's crucial to limit social interaction at this time, it's also important to check in on elderly neighbors. With all the panic buying at stores, many seniors, especially those with limited mobility may have trouble getting the supplies they need. Not only that, going to the store increases their exposure and risk of contracting the coronavirus.

Here are a few things you can do to help make sure elderly friends, family, and or neighbors have what they need during this global pandemic:
  • Offer to go to the store, run errands, or pick up a prescription.
  • Help them set up Skype or FaceTime so that they can safely connect with loved ones and not feel so isolated.
  • Write them a letter or colorful card to let them know you are there and happy to help, and also to spread a little cheer. As mentioned above, this is a great activity for kids home from school.
