Estate Planning During the COVID-19 Pandemic
During this time, many essential employees, healthcare workers, first responders, and medical personnel are on the front lines putting their health on the line. To all of those brave workers, we send you our gratefulness and thank you for your service. The rest of us find ourselves at home or heading back to work and trying to maintain a sense of normalcy during these ever-changing times. During these unsettling times we are left wanting to take charge and control of the things we can. This is a perfect time to look at your important legal documents and review and update your estate plan.
There are many times we recommend reviewing your estate plan. If you have experienced a significant life change, such as marriage, divorce, job change, move, or a change in your income or assets, or simply have not reviewed these documents in several years, you should contact an attorney to review your Will, Living Will, Health Care Power of Attorney, Financial Power of Attorney, or Trusts. Also, changes in the Secure Act enacted in January 2020, may mean you need to look at your 401k and IRAs more closely at this time.
Medicaid Laws change, and some might be affected once they receive their stimulus checks from the Federal Government. In Indiana, these checks don’t seem to be affecting the Aged and Disabled Medicaid recipients, however, that is not necessarily the case for Ohio recipients.
